What makes a holiday a truly unforgettable one is obviously a very personal determination but unexpected surprises are usually part of the equation.

When you travel on the Rocky Mountaineer through glorious western Canada, you expect jaw-dropping scenery and you certainly get it. What many travellers don't anticipate however is the full sensory experience that extends to the culinary accompaniment to those amazing vistas.

Canada’s internationally-acclaimed luxury rail adventure that offers four different routes showcasing the Rockies via Seattle, Vancouver, Banff, Lake Louise, Jasper and Calgary also boasts a fine-dining experience along the way.

Award-winning chefs Jean Pierre Guerin and Frédéric Couton have created menus deliberately crafted to present the best of western Canadian produce with locally-sourced ingredients from the Pacific Northwest. Meals are also paired with the finest regionally-produced wines.

The menu staples are classic in origin and delivered with sophisticated flair - roasted salmon fillets with smoked sea salt, shaved fennel slaw, slow-roasted pork loin, vegetable ravioli, beef short ribs and Fraser Valley chicken breast served over sweet pea puree all feature.

As Rocky Mountaineer is a daytime service, there are no dinners onboard (evening meals are enjoyed at premium hotels and lodges en-route) so this a strictly about the ultimate long lunch with a window seat you’ll never forget.

Menus differ between the two service levels, GoldLeaf and SilverLeaf, which Rocky Mountaineer describes as the choice between “perfect and more perfect.”

The signature feature of the premium GoldLeaf option is the two-level glass dome coach that offers 360-degree views of the wilderness.

The lower level of the carriage is a private dining area and gourmet snacks are also offered  throughout the journey as well as premium beer, wine and spirits.

In SilverLeaf, beverages are also included and meals are served in the comfort of your own seat.

Rocky Mountaineer operates between April and October every year. For more information, please call 1300 175 756 or visit
